From the Prez

We had much to do this past year, and we got it done. With the constitution revised and updated to everyone’s satisfaction and new officers Kathy Gibson and Mark Genteline poised to take their posts we can move on to other matters. The OSTA Kids program gained some steam this past summer with the addition of some special activities for the kids at a couple of shoots. While lots of people helped out, I’d especially like to thank Paul Knisley for continuing to handle the manufacture and distribution of the kid’s bows and arrows, Steve Kennedy, Dan New and Bill Laubenshimer for putting together some really cool activities for the youngsters. This sort of growth isn’t possible without members stepping forward and getting involved. I would very much like to establish a permanent committee devoted to perpetuating and growing our youth program. We need some volunteers.

This isn’t really the end of the calendar year so much as it is the beginning of late season deer hunting. The Gregorian calendar isn’t of much use to me anymore. Of course, it has its place to keep me from missing dental appointments and such, but beyond that it’s just a piece of paper hanging on the wall in my office. Real time simply exists elsewhere. Outdoorsmen know this intuitively. My calendar and wristwatch don’t tell me it’s time to locate the green fields and honeysuckle thickets or that it’s time to can some venison, or turn the beagle dogs loose or get to work on those staves that have been waiting patiently since last spring. Wasn’t it Einstein that said time only exists so everything doesn’t happen all at once?

Thank you, Marilyn and Dave, for your service. It was a pleasure working with you both. See you all in two lunar cycles.  Jamie
